I stayed at Troy because of the staff (teachers, the principal, and the board). I have worked at many schools and I like knowing that I can communicate my thoughts and concerns and have the opportunity to voice my ideas to help create a better working environment and school. Being able to have this line of communication is an opportunity not many foreign teachers in Korea get. I also like the teaching environment. It's nice to work with teachers who care just as much as you do and who are willing to help each other and give you advice. It doesn't feel competitive at all.
Another reason is of course, the students. It's not always easy, but overall we have a well-rounded student body who don't cause too many problems.

My favorite memories are always ones from our events. It's a lot of work preparing for these events, but it's always worth it. The students and staff always create so many lasting memories from events like the marathon and carnival. I would also say just the day-to-day things our students say sometimes, especially when you work in lower elementary. It always makes teaching more enjoyable when we can have a nice laugh together as a class.

Now that I've been teaching for almost 10 years (currently 8), I've learned that teaching is all about having patience and trusting my abilities. When I first started teaching I thought that if students weren't understanding or improving, they would never improve and that I was doing something wrong. With experience, I've learned to remember that we have an entire year, we need to be patient and trust the process and ourselves. It can be frustrating and sadly at times soul-crushing, but if we continue to believe in our students, believe in our teaching methods, and push them to be the best they can be, they will learn and improve.
